UPDATE ON PROGRESS OF BUILDING REPAIRS
The Galleon Building Committee
Robert Sipos, Chair
Anna Davis Frank DePasquali
Mary Finizio Charles Steinmetz
The permits for hurricane restoration and construction have finally been received.
Roof - All railings are up. Gates are currently being measured. Three bids are in for the required screen around the cooling tower. This project will probably be completed in 2007.
South Wall - The stucco repair has been completed. Pressure washing and painting will begin on September 20, weather permitting.
New Building Sign - The sign has been delivered, but due to traffic patterns relating to the construction, installation will be delayed. Installation will require the breezeway to be shut down for one half day.
Main Lobby - The permit has finally been approved. (application was made in February.) The ceiling sub-contractor will begin work on Thursday, September 21. The decorating company (Morris) will coordinate drapery, carpet and wall covering installations with the ceiling contractor.
Lattice - Temporary barricades are being installed from the top floor down. The lattice will be replaced according to code (4 inch intervals), ceiling to floor, and will be painted a cream color. The engineering firm will keep close tabs on catwalk rebars.
North Ramp (outside) and North Basement Driveway (inside) - Work is set to commence this week. Be aware of changing traffic patterns. It will take approximately two and one half months to strip off the concrete and install pavers (orange, tan, charcoal) and waterproof the north ramp (outside). Work will begin simultaneously in the north basement where concrete restoration will be done as needed, and new drains installed.
Pavers - Pavers will be installed on the North Ramp, followed by installation on the South Ramp and the circle at the Main Entrance. Pavers will be installed in the lower Parking Lot after most other construction is complete.
Residents are encouraged not to speak to the workers on the job. If there are any questions, residents are asked to refer them to Paul Swan, the building Manager.
Your patience will be most helpful during this construction period. To be sure, the building will be updated and beautiful when all is said and done.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR BUILDING MANAGER
The Galleon Board of Governors and working committees of residents commend the Building Manager, Mr. Paul Swan, for his hard work and perseverance during this unusual time of hurricane reconstruction. His leadership and knowledge have guided the rebuilding process in an exemplary manner. His gracious manner has eased the concerns of the Galleon community.
